Iron man 2 - philosophical view

Aristotle brought us the thought, there is reason for everything, or everything has a telos. That's where the new Iron-man starts and ends. Does Ironman has a purpose? what is it then? In the end of the first episode of the journey, Tony Stark hammered the Universe with the fact that he is in fact the Iron man. He told everyone that no matter what happens, this is his purpose in life, being Iron man.

This arise the question of purpose. Do we have a purpose from day one or do we learn to choose one purpose? In Ironman Stark choose his purpose in the middle of the first movie after a long life of killing others, he now protects everyone.

This is something that happens to many people. Even Robert Downey Junior himself. 3 years ago he understood that his purpose is making movies, entertaining people, and now he is doing it after long time, since Chaplin.

Help the people
But there is more into the purpose then Ironman can have. What does it mean to help people? what does it mean to protect people?

Besides, as is seems, Mr. Tony Stark is a guy who breaks women's hearts, doesn't that makes him a vilan? If a woman jumps of a roof because of a broken heart by Stark, does that make him a hero?

If one person is being murdered in New York and some woman raped in Los Angels, how can Ironman help them both? Which one will he choose to save? That's why Ironman other kind of hero. He is like the US-military, that why he had to expose himself. Ironman, isn't Batman, Superman of Spiderman, he is other man. He protects the people but not individually. But will he save a person that dives from the huge building if he is the area? Should he do that?

Ironman isn't about saving the people, he about saving the nation. First he did that with his weapon, after he became the Ironman, he does it as the Ironman. Protecting his people, not saving them from themselves.

USA and Iron Man
USA needs a hero like Iron Man, because, Iron man is like America, strong, powerful, arrogant and funny. The US doesn't need a hero that doesn't want to show himself to the world. Spiderman, Bateman and others are shy, they don't want people to know about their great heroism.

The death of God
God is reborn! Yes, he lives in an Iron suit. Nietzsche told us, God is dead before he died himself, and here comes the new one, Iron Man.

Is he God? Can we call a superhero a God? I believe that some of the great philosophers will agree that even being a superhero doesn't make you God, after all you are sill half human, or in some other cases more then half (ask batman). So calling Iron Man might open the door to calling a monkey a clown. Iron Man is more then a man, but that's it. He is capable of dying.

But if God is dead, can the people in the movie Iron Man, pray for him, pray for his help at least? When you pray to God, "Give me a million dollars. Let me go through this time or I want to have sex with Angelina Julie" you want answer, you hope for it and sometimes get it, ask Brad Pitt. But, If you want help can you pray to our dear Iron Man? Because he actually can help you, if you like it or not.

I believe that Iron Man isn't the one to pray for, even if God is Dead. Because, when you pray, you actually pray for yourself, no one else. You are actually trying to convince yourself it can happen, yes, just like Brad Pitt.
